“Students should focus on entrepreneurship, as it generates employment—a critical need in India, where a large number of graduates leave universities each year with limited job prospects,” said businessline Editor Raghuvir Srinivasan, in Coimbatore on Wednesday.
Addressing students of the PSG Institute of Management at its Foundation Day event, he said, “Every graduate today should consider starting a business, a charity, or a social initiative. Such ventures create substantial value—not just for the nation and its economy, but for the individual as well.”
Coimbatore hailed as India’s start-up capital
Highlighting Coimbatore’s entrepreneurial heritage, he said, “This city is ideally positioned to call itself the start-up capital of India. Every engineering and textile unit here began as a start-up, offering students exemplary models to emulate.”
Drawing parallels with the technological landscape four decades ago—when computers were new, markets were restricted, and opportunities were limited—he said that today’s open and dynamic market, propelled by technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), offers abundant opportunities that students must capitalise.
Global trade fluctuations seen as chances for student innovation
On global trade concerns, he said, despite volatile policies such as Trump tariffs, commerce cannot come to a halt. Such fluctuations open new avenues for students to innovate and enter markets that were previously untapped.
