While laying the foundation stone for Rs 500 crore Tribhuvan Sahkari University at Anand in Gujarat, Union Minister for Home and Cooperation Amit Shah said the university will “help eliminate allegations of ‘nepotism and increase transparency’ in issues relating to human resource recruitment in the cooperative sector.
“Earlier, we used to first hire people for the cooperative sector, and then train them. Now, after this university is built, provisions will be made to ensure that only those who have passed out from this university will get jobs. Due to this university, the allegations of nepotism in the cooperative sector will end. This will also bring in transparency,” said Shah after laying the foundation stone for the new university campus.
Shah said that students graduating will not only possess knowledge of technology, accounting, a scientific approach, and marketing, but will also instil the values of the cooperative movement, which is intended for the poor women, tribals, and dalits of the country. The Union minister also urged the Gujarat government to include “cooperatives” as a subject in the school curriculum.
Talking about the contributions of Tribhuvandas Patel in setting up milk cooperatives in Gujarat by giving a free hand to Dr Verghese Kurien, Shah said that due to Patel’s vision, the Indian cooperative dairy sector emerged successful and is able to stand with pride against the private dairies across the globe.
