The Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Shimla-based Army Training Command to establish a Centre of Excellence (CoE) called VIGRAHA (Virtual, Intelligent, Ground-breaking Research in AR/VR and High-tech Applications for the Indian Army).
The agreement would help promote research and development in augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, unmanned systems, and other emerging technologies for the Army.
“This partnership exemplifies the synergy between academia and the armed forces in promoting innovation and advancing the nation’s technological capabilities. The CoE will help the country achieve self-reliance in Defence technologies,” IIT-H Director B.S. Murty said.
The MoU will work on creating joint academic programmes, research and development projects, and capacity-building exercises. It will also launch training and certification programmes in emerging technologies and internship opportunities for IIT-H students at the Army’s Simulator Development Division (SDD) in Secunderabad.
